The year 1991
In 1991 Apple launched TrueType, an open font format developed in partnership with Microsoft as a competitor to Adobe's proprietary Type 1 PostScript format. In response, Adobe opened the Type 1 font format.
The most popular font released in 1991 was Art Deco, designed by M. Schmidt.
