The year 1957
1957 was the year that saw the release of Neue Haas Grotesk, designed by Max Miedinger of the Haas Type Foundry. It was renamed Helvetica by the Stempel foundry, licensed by Linotype, and went on to become what is probably the world's most famous and widely used typeface.
