Binny & Ronaldson (1796-1815)

Binny & Ronaldson was founded in Philadelphia in 1796 by Scottish printers and type-founders Archibald Binny (1763–1838) and James Ronaldson (1768–1842). After 1815, James Ronaldson, followed by his brother, Richard Ronaldson, operated the foundry under their own names.

The company was sold in 1833 to Lawrence Johnson (1801–1860) and it was variously known as Johnson & Smith (1833–1843), L. Johnson (1843–1845), Johnson & Company, L. Johnson & Co. (1845–1867), or the Johnson Type Foundry (1860–1867).

In 1867 it became MacKellar, Smiths, & Jordan.
