MacKellar, Smiths, & Jordan (1867-1892)

MacKellar, Smiths, & Jordan was type foundry based in Philadelphia. It had its origins in Binny & Ronaldson, which later became the Johnson Type Foundry. When Lawrence Johnson died in 1860 the Johnson Type Foundry was run by Thomas MacKellar, John F. Smith, Richard Smith, and Peter A. Jordan. The company changed its name to MacKellar, Smiths, & Jordan in 1867 to reflect its new managers, and was fully incorporated in 1885.

It was the dominant American metal type foundry, and became the main branch in the creation of American Type Founders in 1892. It continued to operate until the Philadelphia factory was destroyed in 1910.
