Marder, Luse & Co. (1855-1892)

Marder, Luse & Co., which traded as The Chicago Type Foundry, started in 1855 as a Chicago branch office of White's Type Foundry of New York City. John Marder who worked as the bookkeeper bought the company in 1863 with financial help from his father-in-law, and when A. P. Luse joined in 1869 it became Marder, Luse & Co.

It became part of the American Type Founders consolidation in 1892, but continued to use the name Chicago Type Foundry until 1895.
