H. Berthold AG (1858-1993)

H. Berthold AG was a successful German type foundry. It was founded in 1858 by Hermann Berthold, and was based in Berlin. It developed many of the world's most famous typefaces, including Akzidenz-Grotesk, as well as manufacturing typesetting machines.

From 1950 the company worked with type designer Günter Gerhard Lange who designed many original typefaces, such as Concorde and Imago, as well as developing revivals of classic faces such as Bodoni and Garamond.

With the development of digital type the company got into financial difficulties, and ceased operations in 1993.
