Manoel de Andrade de Figueiredo (1670-1722)
Portuguese typographer who published "Nova Escola para Aprender a Ler, Escrever e Contar" in 1722 at Officina de Bernardo da Costa de Carvalho, one of the most important books on Portuguese calligraphy and typography.
His work inspired Ventura da Silva, a Portuguese typographer who published "Regras Methodicas" in 1803 in which he redesigns some of Figueiredo's type specimens with the aim of creating a more elegant and readable typeface than Didot and Bodoni.
