Hal Taylor

My typographic career began by setting headlines for major advertisers in photo-type format at Stallone Typography Services in Philadelphia, PA. I didn't know what a font was then, but fell in love with type and letterforms.

After too many long nights at STS, I became a freelance lettering artist working solo and with designer John Langdon providing lettering and logo designs for top local and national advertising and design firms with clients that included Campbell's Soup, The Quickie Corporation, Mannington Floors, The Franklin Mint, Atlantic City Hilton, Pentech and many others. I have also been an adjunct professor teaching typography and design at Drexel University in Philadelphia and Burlington County College in New Jersey.

Currently, I am designing and illustrating book covers for Townsend Press and designing type. FLEXION, a collaboration with John Langdon, which was originally designed for use as the credit crawl for the movie The DaVinci Code, recently received an award from the Type Directors Club as one of the best new type designs of 2007. In addition to Flexion, Nevia, Outpost and Stepp, I have a couple of new type designs, Wells Grotesque and Jeeves, which should be released soon through International Typefounders, Inc. Samples of these new designs can be viewed at my website: haltaylorart.com.
