Born in Fulda, Germany, Martina Theisen studied communications design in Mainz. During her studies, she concentrated on photography and illustration.
She spent many years working for the television company, SWR Mainz. However, she left at the end of 2000, when she won an illustration competition. This prize led to more success in TV and a move to Berlin. She is now back living in the Rheinhessen area of Germany, where she works as a designer and illustrator. She creates fonts, as well as illustrates children's books and school textbooks. Many of her books are produced by the well-known German publishing house, Duden.
