Gunter Schwarzmaier

German Gunter Schwarzmaier studied communications design at university, then worked in various studios in Stuttgart. During this time, he produced designs for The Body Shop and the agency Büro X. He became art director at the publication, Spex, and worked on its relaunch in 2000.

Four years later, in 2004, he became the art director on NEON magazine. Under his direction, the magazine won a LeadAward. He left NEON to join Prinz magazine, again as art director, in 2008.

He loves classical typography and typefaces, but explains that he prefers to use them in an unclassical and less stereotypical way. He believes that the type in a magazine should create a stage for the photographs to appear on.
