Christoffel van Dijck (1601-1669)
Van Dijck's name is synonymous with the golden age of Dutch printing in the 17th century which helped to confirm the reputation of Dutch type throughout Europe. He began his career as a goldsmith and later set up a type foundry. He became the leading type founder in Holland and his roman type is thought to be the model for Caslon. In 1935, one of his typefaces was revived by Van Krimpen and called Van Dijck.
