Donald Tarallo
Donald Tarallo spent a large part of his childhood in his grandmother’s ceramic workshop, where he became interested in form giving and craft. Eventually he studied art and graphic design in college. Later he studied typography and type design at the Basel School of Design in Switzerland with André Gürtler. This period was influential in his choice to become a typeface designer.
He completed his MFA in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design in the USA. He has worked in Europe and East Asia, which further shaped his thinking about letters and alphabets.
His work begins with an idea or a feeling, a pencil or brush on paper, and a belief that approaching design with hands and heart gives work soul.
