Jean Jannon (1580-1658)

Information about the font designer Jean Jannon and his typefaces.

Jannon was a celebrated printer at the Protestant Academy at Sedan in France. On the orders of Cardinal Richelieu, his type, which is now known as Caractère del'Université, were confiscated for his own personal use. The ruthless Cardinal Richelieu later used the Jannon type for his memoirs in 1482.

Jannon is famed for his very diminutive volumes and equally small neat typeface.
