Walter Tiemann (1876-1951)
The German Walter Tiemann was one of the most important book and type designers of his generation. He produced 16 typefaces for the premier foundry in Germany - the Klingspor Foundry.
Under Tiemann's direction, from 1920 onwards, a new 'school of design' developed at the Leipzig Akademie. It became a centre for the practice of calligraphy. He also founded the first private press in Germany, the Janus Press.
