Margaret Penney
Margaret H. Penney was born in Beirut Lebanon in 1973, the daughter of a diplomat she spent much of her childhood overseas in the Middle East and North Africa. She has a Bachelors from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University. She lived and worked as a web and print designer in New York City, Hong Kong, and Madrid before settling into a role as a teacher at a boarding school outside of New York City, where she designed their digital media curriculum. She currently works for a design college as an instructor and department head, where she teaches Fundamentals of Type, among other classes.
An early adopter of the web and art online, she has exhibited New Media art at the Museo Tamayo Contemporary Art Museum in Mexico and the Institute of Contemporary Art in London. Her design and artwork have been featured in Yahoo France, La Reforma, XLR8R, and FACT magazine. She launched her freelance design studio full time in 2006 and created her first typeface design Boccaccio in 2008. She lives with her fiance and their cats Leo, Garçon, and Chuffy.
