Roelof Mulder

Roelof Mulder

Roelof Mulder was born in the Netherlands on the premises of a psychiatric hospital, where his parents happened to reside at the time of his birth. He received an education in fine arts at the College of Arts in Arnhem. Having achieved success in this discipline with exhibitions in galleries in Atlanta, Amsterdam, Cologne and Zürich, in 1993 he attended the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht for a year in order to underline his definitive career change to the graphic arts. Mulder's departure from the academy was quickly followed by the announcement that he was to be the first winner of the Rotterdam Design Prize.

Subsequent projects included postage-stamp and telephone-card design for Royal Dutch Post and Telecom, logos for fashion label Daniel Poole Soho London and at the same time he was member of the editorial staff and designer of Forum Magazine, an architectural quarterly.

He made catalogues for the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Droog Design, Marcel Wanders, MVRDV architects and fashion label Diesel. A more recent project focused on visuals and advertisements for Japanese clothing brand Takeo Kikuchi. He also designed Toolbub magazine and Home Outside catalogue for Tokyo based company E&Y and from 2000 to 2002 he was Art Director and designer for Frame magazine.

When he is not cruising around in his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro he is working on a funky book with experimental graphics and other creative energy.
