Phil Baines

Phil Baines graduated from St Martin's School of Art in 1985 and the Royal College of Art in 1987. He has worked as a freelance designer since that time and is noted for his letterpress work, two typefaces for Neville Brody's Fuse project, and recent editorial designs for clients such as Goethe-Institut, London, Matt's Gallery, and Phaidon Press. His typeface FF You Can Read Me was released by FSI in 1995 and VereDignum by Linotype in 2003

He teaches typography on the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design and is co-curator (with Catherine Dixon) of the Central Lettering Record.

He is author of two books – Type & typography, with Andrew Haslam, (Laurence King & Watson Guptill 2002) and Signs, lettering in the environment, with Catherine Dixon (Laurence King 2002).
