Joy Redick

Information about the typeface designer Joy Redick and her fonts.

Joy Redick grew up on a farm in Massachusetts, with her watercolour artist mother. She first became interested in type design while she was studying calligraphy and typography under Alexander Nesbitt at the University of Massachusetts. She also studied watercolour painting at Massachusetts College of Art Extension.

She began her typography career doing font production for Agfa/Compugraphic in Wimington, Massachusetts. She went on to draw fonts for Autologic, Imagen, and Adobe Systems. Among her work for Adobe are her contributions to the Wood series, which she worked on with Barbara Lind.

She also paints with mixed media, watercolour and dyes on silk.
