Bogdan Żochowski (1936-2006)

Bogdan Żochowski was a graphic artist, typographer, and magazine art director. He studied painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating in 1962, together with his wife Elżbieta, has created a tandem that has revolutionized the visual form of many Polish periodicals. Living behind the Iron Curtain they were able to satisfy the reader's hunger for pop culture at the same time playing with the convention and giving it a new meaning.

Primarily famous as a designer of magazines and newspapers, he was also engaged in other types of graphic design, like posters and animations. He designed many typefaces, including Glowworm (Mecanorma) for Mecanorma (1975), Glob and Globe Square (1979), as well as Graph – an unique sans serif antiqua (1984).

He is well known for his lettering layouts for “Literature” and the legendary “Ty i Ja”, magazines dedicated to advanced reader, standing out by its cutting-edge visual form.
