Thomas Hirter
Thomas Hirter was born in Bern, Switzerland, in 1980, and studied Graphic Design at the Schule für Gestaltung Biel/Bienne (SFG B:B) between 1998 and 2004. After his diploma he moved to Stockholm, Sweden, where he worked as an intern and as a freelancer. At the same time, he began to deepen his type design practice.
His first released type family Lunica combines a mixture of Swedish flair and Swiss precision. Lunica enters a gap between text and display type: a rounded monoline serif face with clear and sober shapes and a strong individual character.
In 2007 Hirter returned to Bern, Switzerland, and set up his own graphic design studio. Even though he still works as a graphic designer, the focus on type design is steadily increasing.
