Judith Sutcliffe (1941-2021)
Judith Sutcliffe, The Electric Typographer, grew up in a small town in Iowa, graduated from the University of Iowa in 1963 with a double major in English and Chinese, plus ceramic studies. She was a self-employed artist since 1968 in tile mural painting, graphic design, type design.
Flourish, her first original font (1986), appeared on the covers of Harry Potter coloring books. Other favorites often seen on book covers are Tagliente and Leonardo. She lived in Audubon, IA, and Galena, IL, and co-owned Longbranch Gallery in Mineral Point, WI.
She died peacefully in March 2021 after a long battle with breast cancer.
