Albert Boton

Albert Boton studied graphic design and calligraphy under Adrian Frutiger. He then worked as a type designer for the Deberny & Peignot type foundry in Paris where he studied under Frutiger and Ladislas Mendel, and contributed to the design of the Univers type family.

Boton subsequently worked as an art director and freelance designer in a variety of advertising agencies and design studios, including the Carré Noir Design Agency between 1981 and 1997. During this time he created many original typefaces, among them Chadking, Roc, Brasilia, Black Boton, Pharaon, and (in collaboration with Albert Hollenstien) ITC Eras.

Boton has also taught design, calligraphy, and lettering at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Design, and the Imprimerie Nationale in Paris.
