Tinta Uncoated

The Tinta typeface is a rebellion against sterility and cold perfection. In a time dominated by supersharp offset printing and screen typography, Tipografies embarks on a search of lost warmth. The goal is to recreate the mood of Renaissance printmaking. Tinta utilizes variable font technology to bring back the vulnerable quality of letterforms.

A dynamic sans of classical proportions, Tinta is characterized by organic forms with curving contours and flared endings. The serifless roman is complemented by an animated italic. Rather than engaging in a digital copy of the types cut by Jenson or Griffo, Tinta is concerned with capturing the spirit found in works from the 15th century. Named after the Catalan word for ink, Tinta explores the diverse manifestations of the printed letter. Studying old prints, it became evident that their appeal is tied to the imperfect impression. The look and feel of the letters change, depending on the amount of ink and pressure as well as on the paper quality.
